The Irish Chamber Orchestra is Ireland’s world-class orchestra, renowned for its energy, unique sound and outstanding musicianship. ICO Leader, Katherine Hunka (violin) has been captivating audiences big and small throughout Ireland since 2002. In October (17-26), the Irish Chamber Orchestra takes to the road with a Minimalism and Melody tour, directed by Katherine performing in venues in Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Kells, Mallow and Listowel.
The ICO celebrates Philip Glass’s 75th birthday with his exhilarating Symphony No. 3. Glass is one of the most prolific and distinguished composers of the 20th Century, having been nominated for three Academy Awards, scored dozens of operas, films and plays alongside volumes of symphonic compositions and solo works. Schubert’s sublime Rondo in A for Violin and Strings D. 438 is songful, light and undoubtedly Schubert’s concerted masterpiece. Linda Buckley’s Fall Approaches was inspired by evocative Icelandic poetry while Dvořák‘s much-loved Serenade in E major for Strings, Op. 22 is one of his most popular works.
