Doneraile Park Revitalised
Recent works at Doneraile Park have resulted in a substantial increase in attendances to the facility. The new playground is a big favourite with the kids, but it is the spectacular walks that really give the park it’s appeal. Some of the roads have been repaved, and the additional signage makes navigation easier for new visitors. There’s ample parking, the whole experience is free, and the park is only a short drive from Mallow. Read the rest of this entry »
Google Earth Comes To Mallow
Google switched on the street view facility in Ireland today. The Google car had been seen around Dublin and Cork, snapping away. We hadn’t heard that it also visited Mallow, and it’s done a pretty comprehensive job reaching outlying areas and estates. If you’re curious and fancy a virtual tour, download Google Earth and make sure you’ve enabled street view.
Mallow Development Partnership Announce Exciting Initiatives
Mallow GAA Complex yesterday hosted a presentation to reveal the fruit of the labours of the Mallow Development Partnership, which will see the town become a center of excellence for the teaching of Maths, and a research proving ground for new technologies.
Shop Local, Get Better Prices, Support Local Jobs
Many Mallow residents leave the town on a regular basis to go shopping in Blackpool, or the city center. Many more shop from the comfort of their homes via the internet. The belief is that Mallow is expensive and doesn’t have the variety, but those who take the time to challenge this belief are rewarded with a great shopping experience.
There have recently been big changes to the Mallow retail and services infrastructure. The Chamber of Commerce has been completely revamped into a progressive, responsive entity. Local traders have an active organisation which meets regularly. All in all, Mallow businesses are very focused on providing a quality shopping experience. Any local trader has a story or two about regular customers from far away who are regularly drawn back to Mallow because they love to shop here.
Mallow Potential Site For New Ikea
Mallow is being considered as the location for the new Ikea store. With it’s strategic location on the crossroads of Munster, Mallow would be an ideal location to serve the southern part of the country. If Mallow is chosen, it would mean hundreds of job for a town that has suffered from many closures and redundancies in recent years.
More and more companies are looking to North Cork as a prime location. Lidl has a distribution center in Ballyhea, and Aldi is constructing another in Mitchelstown. Furthermore, with the proposed M20 Cork Limerick motorway in prospect, combined with accessible rail, air and sea transport, the infrastructure looks very attractive.
Locals were thrilled at the prospect, with one resident enthusing “It would be fabulous for the town!”
Buttevant Red Bull Steeple Cross
Sunday, June 20th saw large crowds descend on Buttevant. It wasn’t for The Cahirmee horse fair – the crowds were here to see riders on two wheels rather than four legs. The Red Bull Steeple Cross took place against the scenic backdrop of Buttevant castle, and the weather was glorious. It is estimated that about 3000 visited the spectacle.
Red Bull Steeple-Cross June 20th
The site of the world’s first ever steeplechase will see a new take on the sport on June 20th. This time the riders will be on motorbikes instead of horses, as Buttevant plays host to the 2010 Red Bull Steeple-Cross.
