Buttevant Red Bull Steeple Cross

Sunday, June 20th saw large crowds descend on Buttevant. It wasn’t for The Cahirmee horse fair – the crowds were here to see riders on two wheels rather than four legs. The Red Bull Steeple Cross took place against the scenic backdrop of Buttevant castle, and the weather was glorious. It is estimated that about 3000 visited the spectacle.

Morgan O’Neill Achieves Highest Award in Irish Photography

On 24 April last Mallow Camera Club member Morgan O’Neill was awarded his Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation (IPF).  Only a handful of photographers achieve this award each year, often after many attempts.  Morgan not only achieved his Fellowship on his first attempt, but over the past few years the quality of his work has ensured his rapid rise through the ranks of Irish photography.

To achieve his Fellowship Morgan had to present a panel of twenty prints displaying originality, cohesion, artistic input, and technical ability.  Morgan’s panel consisted of photographs of interiors of old unoccupied Irish houses, and gave an intriguing insight into a time now gone, and how people lived.  The superb composition, and use of colour, varying from subtle to vivid, achieved in difficult lighting conditions, all helped to convince the judges that Morgan was worthy of the IPF’s highest award.

Mallow Clean Up Day A Huge Success

Mallow Tidy Towns Committee want to greatly thank everyone for coming out last Saturday to clean up Mallow. A really brilliant joint effort took place between sporting clubs, community groups, residents associations, businesses, politicians, clergy, retired people, volunteers and individuals. Many people came out at the start at 10am and more joined in when they saw what was happening and how easy it is to make a huge difference to Mallows litter problem. Over 60 people took to the streets, lanes, open spaces and approach roads of our town and hand picked over 300 bags of litter, a massive mount of about 5 tonnes of litter for the Town Council to dispose of today Monday. It was an awe inspiring really really brilliant effort from all who turned out and made a town cleaner on a good day.

The people of Mallow really took up the battle against litter last Saturday and proved that when Mallow wants – Mallow can.

Mallow went from being a littered town to a town clean to European norms.

To stay on top of the problem, as a lot of the volunteers on the day suggested, we will be doing this on the last Saturday of every month and hope people can join in whenever they can. We will all work to get Mallow right up there in the best of the litter free towns of Ireland.

Thanks a million to all for the great effort and see you again soon.

From Mallow Tidy Towns.

Clean Up Mallow Day – March 27th (Update)

The Clean Up Mallow Day takes place on Saturday March 27th. Mallow Tidy Towns asks everyone who can to come along to one of 5 meeting points on Saturday morning at 10am. Bags, bibs and disposable gloves will be ready at these locations to make a good spring clean of Mallow.

A litter survey of Mallow recently completed by An Taisce listed the town as being moderately littered. Looking around our approach roads, kerbs and open spaces we can see how true this is. Neighbouring towns like Fermoy are deemed to be litter free. With a bit of care and attention from everyone, Mallow can be just as good and become Litter Free and be a cleaner better place to live, work and enjoy.

So come out on this Saturday morning, join the effort and make Mallow a cleaner better place. Meeting points, areas to be cleaned and contact details are:
