AUTISM ASSISTANCE DOGS IRELAND Announce their 2012 calendar is now for sale.Launched by Munster and Ireland Rugby hero Ronan O’GaraAt Cork Racecourse Mallow on 6th November 2011.

Sales of the calendar will enable aadi to continue training and placing their assistance dogs. The calendar is now on sale at the €6 each  and can be purchased securely through the website www.aadi.ie or by emailing info@aadi.ie or calling 022 43851.

All interested are asked to attend at Mallow Railway Station at 2.30p.m. where Mayor Dan Joe Fitzgerald will inaugurate the trail as part of National Heritage Week. The trail will proceed to the various points of interest throughout the town and will end at Mallow bridge.

Local historians will give a brief resume at each stop where plaques detailing the significance of each location will be erected. In addition there is the option of purchasing Audio in hand guides which further elaborate on the traumatic events experienced by the people of Mallow during the War of Independence and the subsequent Civil War.

The Trail, as well as recalling this Historic period in Mallow, through its integration into the Town structure and its innovative audio guides is designed to assist and promote Tourism and local business.

Mallow Development Partnership (MDP) through the Heritage sub-committee (Chaired by Tim Sheehan) is in partnership with Mallow Town Council, Cork Institute of Technology and the Heritage Council of Ireland in establishing and promoting the Mallow Rebel Trail.

37 year old Viki Mulhall (nee Lynch), who now lives in Cappagh, County Waterford, learnt last year from her brother, David, that his seven year old son Liam was diagnosed with a category four spine tumour – five being the most severe.

Viki was brought up with David and three other siblings Katie, Sam and Anne, at a farm with their parents, Richard and Eithne Lynch.
Liam, who lives with his father and mother, Grainne, in Mallow, has received radiotherapy and now chemotherapy at Mercy University Hospital, Cork.
Although he continues to be in a serious condition, it is being helped by a charity, Children’s Leukaemia Association.

Viki is so impressed by the support the association is giving Liam, and other children like him, she decided to take on a massive personal challenge to help raise vital funds – the TriGrandPrix triathlon championship.

The tough event in Kilkenny, 23 July, will combine a swim, cycle and run – a sport she has never attempted before.
She said: “Despite Liam having this condition he is such a happy and positive boy – he really gets on with it.
“I felt he deserves something extra back, and this is what the charity gives. He can forget about his condition for a while and have fun.
“This triathlon will push myself physically, but in doing so, helping to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.”
The association helps Liam with days out and home tuition, as he can only manage two hours of school each day.
Viki, who has three sons; Jack, Leo and Arthur, will receive plenty of family encouragement on the day, as her husband Conor is also taking part.
The ‘sprint’ triathlon includes a 750metre river swim, a 20km cycle and a five km run to finish.

Our aim as a group is to provide support to the whole family and give them as much help as we can on practical level.
Local “Rat Pack” tribute group will be performing some well known numbers which are guaranteed to get you up dancing and they will be supported by local girlband Roulette – it promises to be a great nights entertainment!

Tickets can be bought at the door and are priced at only €5 – we will also be holding a raffle with some great prizes.

It will be divided into two sections with girls up to the age of 14 welcome from 2pm to 4pm and girls over 14 welcome from 4pm to 6pm.

Admission is absolutely free and there will be top coaches in attendence. Many prizes will be given out during the afternoon.

The object of this roadshow is to promote women’s soccer in Mallow and hopefully by next season there will be a team or two from there entering into the Cork Leagues.

The Big Clean Up in Mallow takes place on Saturday March 12th . Mallow Tidy Towns asks everyone who can to come along to one of the meeting points on Saturday morning at 10.30am. Bags, and disposable gloves will be ready at these locations to make a good spring clean of Mallow.

The recent IBAL survey (Irish Businesses Against Litter) survey rated Mallow as being Littered, and listed 48 th out of 53 areas examined. Everyone knows that with a little more effort Mallow can and will be better than that. Last August, Mallow had been rated “Clean to European Norms”, listed 27 th out of 53 towns / cities surveyed, and cleaner than Cobh, Midleton and Youghal. Neighbouring towns like Fermoy are deemed to be litter free. Mallow can be just as good and become Litter Free and be a cleaner better place to live, work and enjoy.

Looking around our approach roads, kerbs and open spaces we can see we all need to be a bit more careful about litter, and this Big Clean Up on Saturday March 12th will really help boost the tidiness of the town.

So come out on this Saturday morning, join the effort for an hour or two, or whatever you can, and make Mallow a cleaner better place. Meeting points are the Roundabout Tavern car park; Dogs Heads at the Spa; Garda Station Car Park; and Aldi, all at 10.30am.
